Fifteen Minutes

With no name or number
John Doe fought for his life
For one day he was someone
But then he went & survived
About twenty six, or twenty seven
Almost six feet tall
With broken teeth in a baggy tee shirt
Under a cloth of blood
Without a name or an address
Had no ID at all
Well, on the news (I think that) all they said was
It was a hit & run
That poor sap had his fifteen
on the one night when he lie
But at twenty eight (his face made) a different smile
Behind distant eyes
He retook his name (but found he) had lost charisma
& missed his time to shine
But still he plays & keeps on writing
With no good reason why
He sure wasn't great in the first place
But now he's barely alright

Ooh a little bit of truth
Is hanging back & stuck backstage, & keeping quiet
You shoulda known all the rules from back at the top
Ooh a tiny breath in
Just before the stage lights up to a new crowd (A little bit of truth)
Don't fuck it up.
Don't be yourself
or try too hard
Getting lost in the part
& go all in give
the people what they want
It just seems like
You're outta luck when it's starting just to feel like
Things are right but you really know you're not at home
Where you know
Where you're on your own
Where you belong
But time is up when it started just to feel like
Being out of the water is where you belong
Where you know
You're not on your own
Where you belong
Ooh a smile so big
It covers up the big bad truth you're keeping quiet
You in that role are just too good you
Just got lost
Ooh a bitter old truth
Will barrel back without concern for your new crowd (A little bit of truth)
Just give it up
& let it go.
It's gone too far
You got lost in the part
You went all in gave
the people what they want

First Blush

A life in a place & time, we didn’t choose
Abide by the rules we find, oh ’ til we’re through
Then I decide on a place in a time to reside that I wished were true
But who we are we can’t escape, so I wrecked that too
At first blush
I came on way too strong
I’d never known someone like you
So I knew first, the path that I would choose
I’d trade that life for one with you
Please see it through
You’re all i have to lose
A place in a time designed for our own use
A place we can feel alive, in health & youth
So I decide on a place in a time to reside that I wished were true
So now here we are now free to stay, until we’re through
Without a doubt, the lies we learn to lead die out, & then, leaving us only
to find out, the lives we’re meant to lead are found, not with, but without, stable ground

To be honest what would describe you best
As you walk up would be a red hot mess
Sun burned, as thin as a rail
Come on inside
Sit down, relax
Put your feet up
Sit up straight
Say our grace with
Your chin raised
Lulled by the blade
Never could tell you that
You say one lovely grace
Sorry to stop you
It's just how we pray (prey)
It's been fun
I mean it really was
Now get some rest
Lie down, relax
Put your feet up
The best parties can leave such a mess
Sure hate clean up but I love the rest
It's been fun
I mean it really was
Go on outside
Make room the next
Guests arrive soon
